Uncharted Waters III: Costa del SolThe classic Japanese Macintosh game in English, with its music from MP3 files and no CD needed, on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.
Uncharted Waters III: Costa del Sol (大航海時代III Costa del Sol, KOEI) is the third of KOEI's games of the Age of Discovery. From 1480 you are a captain: you find a sponsor, take on a crew and ships, and sail out to trade, to explore and to make discoveries, with naval battles and duels on the way. Its 27 pieces of music play from the CD. The Macintosh edition came out in 1997, only in Japanese.
Here it is as a PowerPC Macintosh can play it today: in English, with the CD's audio replaced by MP3 playback, so the music plays under emulation and from a hard disk, and starting without its CD. It runs on Mac OS 9, and on Mac OS X 10.4 as a native application without Classic. The Japanese edition with the same changes is here too.

2026-10-17 Mac OS X editions Claude
- Both editions as Mac OS X 10.4 applications for PowerPC, without Classic: the English edition 1.2 and the Japanese MP3 edition 1.0. Each runs the game's own code, unchanged, inside ROTK5's Mac OS X host.
- What this game needed of the host besides: its sounds from resources and their fades, its alerts set as Mac OS X alerts so that their Japanese fits, and a Quit from the Dock.
- The help opens in the web browser: the game's help file as HTML pages, with its pictures, links and keyword index. The game's own help viewer cannot run on Mac OS X.
- Tried under emulation (Mac OS X 10.4.11 in QEMU): the opening, new games, saving and loading, the towns, setting sail, music, the help, both window sizes and quitting. Battles and duels not yet.

2026-10-16 English edition 1.2 Claude
- A playtest of the English game in Lisbon: character creation, every building, the harbor, the town menu and a hand of poker. Its findings are issues DAI3-1 to DAI3-7 in Projects.
- The text-entry palette shows its kana again, so a name can be typed in Japanese too.
- The card game's speech bubbles, the duel's taunts and the land battle's unit notes break at words and stay in their bubbles.
- Labels that did not fit now fit: the palette's buttons, the timeline's page buttons, the Announce window and the card game's result.
- The stat is called Vigor everywhere, also at the inn.
2026-10-16 English edition 1.1 Claude
- 25 of the help file's pictures made again from the English game: the help viewer, the menus, a new character's screens, Lisbon, the library, the supply, fleet, player, sponsor and contract windows, and the area map. Their clickable areas still work.
- Text that did not fit now fits: the player's window, the fleet window and its cargo line.
- A bare percent sign no longer garbles three texts: the town window printed its price into the next line. A book's tooltip has its space back.
- Public: dai3-english-patch-20261016.zip.
2026-10-15 English edition 1.0 Claude
- The game in English: 7,605 strings of the program, 3,066 lines of the event scripts, the menus and dialogs, and 112 short strings the code reaches directly.
- The help file and the help viewer in English: the Windows Help file is rewritten, its links, search and index kept.
- A clearer Latin font (Terminus, bold 8x16) in place of the game's own.
- Checked under emulation on the opening in Lisbon, character creation, the home, the market and the help.
- Public: dai3-english-patch-20261015.zip.
2026-10-15 MP3 edition 1.0 Claude
- The game's CD audio replaced by QuickTime MP3 playback on Mac OS 9: the 27 tracks play from a Music folder.
- The no-CD patch is part of it: the game starts without its CD.
- Checked under emulation by recording the game's sound: the main menu's track and Lisbon's, the repeats, the pause in the background, and the alert when the music is missing.
- Public: dai3-mp3-patch-20261015.zip.
2026-10-15 No-CD patch Claude
- One instruction changed: the game no longer asks at start-up for the disc named CDSMAC.
- With Data and Movie in the game's folder, the game reads nothing from the CD.
2026-10-15 The soundtrack Claude
- The 27 CD audio tracks cut from the disc image and compared with Redump's dump of the disc: the same, bit for bit.
- 24 tracks named from KOEI's 30th-anniversary soundtrack set.
