UNCHARTED WATERS III: COSTA DEL SOL - ENGLISH EDITION 1.2, FOR MAC OS X This is KOEI's Japanese Macintosh game Daikoukai Jidai III: Costa del Sol (1997, version 1.2) in English, as a Mac OS X application. It runs on Mac OS X 10.4 on a PowerPC Mac, without the Classic environment. It is the English edition 1.2 for Mac OS 9, unchanged: - The game's text is in English: the events and conversations, the menus, the buttons, the status bars, the names of ports, people, goods and discoveries, and the messages. - The help (Help menu) is in English. - It starts without its CD, and it plays its music from 27 MP3 files in the Music folder, through QuickTime. A small program, the host, loads the game's own PowerPC code into a Mac OS X application and gives it the parts of the classic Mac OS that Mac OS X left out: a 256-colour screen, the old sound calls, and the help. INSTALL 1. Open this disk image. 2. Drag the folder "Costa del Sol English" to your hard disk. Keep Data, Movie and Music in it, beside the application. 3. Open "Uncharted Waters III" in that folder. The game saves into its Data folder, so play it from a disk you can write to. Its saved games are the Mac OS 9 edition's: copy SAVEDATA.CDS and ACCDATA.CDS from one Data folder to the other. THE HELP The help opens in your web browser (Help menu), as pages made from the English help file: the same text, pictures and links. The game's own help viewer is a Mac OS 9 program and cannot run on Mac OS X. REQUIREMENTS - A PowerPC Macintosh with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It was tried on 10.4.11. - 210 MB of disk space. LIMITS - The English is a machine translation, checked and corrected by hand on the screens that were tried. 27 of the help's pictures still show Japanese. - Tried under emulation (QEMU, a G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.11), not yet on a real Macintosh, and not on Mac OS X 10.5. - Tried: the opening, the main menu, a new character, the town's buildings, the shipyard, the tavern, the harbor, saving and loading, setting sail, an event at sea, music and sound, the help, both window sizes, hiding the desktop, quitting. Not tried yet: the battles, the duels and the card game.
